Multistate Collaborative

BETA x Virginia and Maryland

UT EIPP Mission 003

Organ transport

BETA kicked off the eVTOL Integration Pilot Program (eIPP) flying the first mission with its ALIA CTOL in partnership with United Therapeutics on July 10, 2026 under the Multistate Collaborative eIPP (MSCE) National Integration Complex. The inaugural campaign included the transfer of a manufactured organ and demonstrated what future routine operations will look like across a multistate corridor connecting Virginia and Maryland. The flights covered approximately 275 nautical miles, flying between Virginia Tech Montgomery Executive Airport (KBCB) in Blacksburg, Virginia, Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport (KCHO) in Charlottesville, Virginia, Frederick Municipal Airport (KFDK) in Frederick, Maryland, and Martin State Airport (KMTN) in Baltimore County, Maryland. The flights used existing airport infrastructure and BETA chargers, and were done with support from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Virginia Department of Aviation, and Maryland Aviation Administration.

United Therapeutics is developing manufactured organs that will need dependable transport when they become available. The Virginia–Maryland corridor is a key route for the biotech company, and this mission was an opportunity for BETA to demonstrate that delivery process using infrastructure the region already has. It also provided state aviation teams the opportunity to evaluate how electric aircraft will operate commercially across their airports and in the National Airspace System (NAS). BETA plans to build on this inaugural flight with future flight campaigns under the Multistate eIPP.
