Description

At BETA Technologies, we apply our intellectual curiosity, passion for aviation, and commitment to sustainability toward a shared mission of revolutionizing electric aviation. Regardless of the position one holds, each team member brings their talent and desire to positively impact the environment and lives of others in a refreshing, vibrant, and inclusive culture.

We are seeking a highly skilled Machine Design Engineer to join our Airborne Hardware team. In this role you will design, develop, and validate key electromagnetic machines that will support the next generation electric aircraft at Beta Technologies. You will collaborate across design, manufacturing, test, certification, and supply chain to bring sophisticated machine systems from concept through flight-ready hardware.
You’ll be in the thick of it: designing machines, jigs, fixtures, automated test rigs, developing DFMEAs; selecting materials; analyzing loads; iterating prototypes; and transitioning into production. If you thrive in a hands-on, high-velocity aerospace environment where machine design meets aircraft assembly systems deployment, you’ll feel right at home.

How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:

  • Design and develop electromechanical and electromagnetic systems for Beta’s electric propulsion, platforms.
  • Architect and analyze magnetic circuits, coil geometries, and magnetic materials for motors and actuators.
  • Work closely with the electrical and controls teams to ensure your designs integrate seamlessly with power electronics and system-level requirements.
  • Perform thermal, magnetic, and structural simulations (e.g., ANSYS Maxwell, COMSOL, SolidWorks Simulation) to predict system performance and validate design intent.
  • Translate analytical and simulation results into buildable, manufacturable mechanical designs—including housings, laminations, and magnetic assemblies.
  • Define and execute validation and test plans, gather experimental data, and refine your designs through iteration.
  • Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with a focus on machine design.
  • 5+ years of mechanical/machine design experience; preferably in aerospace, defense, high-precision manufacturing, or advanced mobility sector.
  • Experience with magnetic and thermal simulation tools (ANSYS, COMSOL, JMAG, or equivalent).Solid understanding of electromagnetic design concepts including
  • Experience working across disciplines: mechanical, manufacturing, test, with a bias for getting hands dirty and iterating quickly.
  • Comfortable working hands-on with test setups, instrumentation, and prototype builds.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across disciplines.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and clearly present design concepts, trade-offs, and results.
  • Above and Beyond Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with EMI/EMC compliance, high-voltage insulation, and thermal management in compact systems..
  • Background in controls, sensors, or feedback systems for electromechanical actuation.
  • Knowledge of FAA or aerospace design standards for electrical/mechanical integration.
  • Previous experience in a startup or hands-on R&D environment.
  • Compensation:

    $ 125,000 - $ 180,000 / year
